Felix Romero

 

 

Born Felix Romero in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, began his professional career as a show case “Rumbero Dancer”, at the age five. From that beginning he forged a career in the entertainment industry, whether it was dancing on Broadway, performing and recording with such notables as Leonard Bernstein, James Brown, Isaac Hayes, the Brooklyn Phil harmonica, la Orquestra, Pan Americana and others, as a percussionist. Later forming his own theatre dance company, Teatro Otra Cosa, that toured all over the country and was the only Bomba & Plena Company to perform at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall. He has been a successful television Producer, Director, Writer, and Composer. His production features have been PBS “Realidades” program, WTNH TV’s "Like it is" program and, "Expo Entertainment Extravaganza programs which he also directed and wrote. Recently he has produced, directed and written commercials for such clients as American Express, Avon and Plumrose. He has received high acclaim for his music video production for the Gran Combo’s "Amame" record. He also produced Tito Nieve’s “I’ll Always Love You”, Jose Alberto’s “No La Nombre”, and three videos for the General including “Gran Pana”.

In 1990 Mr. Romero produced the “Latin Jazz” special, “Al Dia Con Los Mets” and directed “Lo Mejor del Desfile Puertorriqueño” for Univision channel 41. To his further credit, he composed the theme songs for the shows. His other composition is the title tune to the Gran Combo’s L.P. “Latin Up”. All this lead to his own recording debut in 1989 on Cartone Records as “Jovan” rapping the hit tune “The Old Man is Slammin”, “El Viejo Meneito” and “I Like It, Me Gusta.”

1997 was highlighted by an Off-Broadway production of Candido Tirado’s “Some People Have all the Luck” in which he not only acted in, but more importantly directed this highly acclaimed play. 1998 started with a bang. He worked as Associate Producer/Musical Director for an Argentinean feature called “An Argentinean in New York” for South Beach Productions. It opened in 600 theaters throughout Argentina in May 1998. As Associate Producer/Post Production Supervisor for a Puerto Rican feature film, “Heroes de Otra Patria” from Cine del Caribe productions. This film opened in 20 theatres on April 30, 1998 and was selected for the nomination process in “The Best Foreign Language Film” category for the Oscars.
