Yaya is a women's collective dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich cultural legacies and African-based musical traditions of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. Founded in New York in 2002, Yaya honors the vibrant musical heritage represented in Puerto Rican bomba and Dominican salve traditions, through live performances, workshops, and female-led creative ciphers. Recognizing the contributions of women in preserving and transmitting these traditions, Yaya honors the yayas (Creole/Kongo origin), or mothers, who have helped shape our histories, traditions and legacies of resistance. Yaya has performed at Symphony Space, Central Park Summer Stage, The Nuyorican Poets Café, Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance, Hunter College, Hostos Community College, and numerous other venues.

Yaya es un colectivo de mujeres dedicado a preservar y promover el rico legado cultural y musical puertorriqueño y dominicano cuya base principal es africana. Este grupo fundado en Nueva York en 2002, rinde homenaje a la bomba puertorriqueña y a las salves dominicanas a través de presentaciones en vivo, talleres, y círculos de creación colectiva dirigidos por mujeres. Al reconocer las contribuciones de las mujeres en la preservación y transmisión de estas tradiciones, Yaya honra a las yayas (origen criollo/kongo), o madres, que han ayudado a moldear nuestras historias, tradiciones y legados de resistencia. Yaya se ha presentado en Symphony Space, Central Park Summer Stage, The Nuyorican Poets Café, Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance, Hunter College, Hostos Community College, entre otros lugares.
